2012 Military Youth Deer Hunt

The Derby City and Central KY Branches of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) will  sponsor the  second annual  Military  Youth  Deer  Hunt in support of our  local  troops of Kentucky.

The  primary mission  of  our  youth  deer  hunting program is to provide  a  safe and rewarding hunting opportunity to the children of our deployed troops.  Without our help, these children may miss the chance to enjoy the hunting experience because their mother or father is away protecting our freedom.  It is our chance to give back to those who give so much!

It is our  goal  to provide a  quality  hunting  experience  for the children of our deserving service members. We are planning for approximately 30 children ages 10 thru 15 to participate.  Each child will be paired up with an experienced mentor whose responsibility will be to provide a safe yet rewarding hunting experience.  In addition to  participating in a safe and rewarding hunt, each child will:

• Attend KDFWR hunter education and receive a certificate of completion
• Receive a youth hunting license and deer permit
• Develop marksmanship skills in both archery and modern firearms
• Attend seminars on whitetail biology, hunter ethics and field care of deer
• Experience the deer camp environment
• Participant in games that revolve around wildlife education and hunting skill
development

The event will be held 11-14 October, 2012 (Kentucky Statewide Youth Weekend)

Deer Camp will be located at the YMCA’s Camp Piomingo, located inside the 2600 acre Otter Creek Park in Brandenburg, KY.  Hunting will be in nearby counties on private lands and FT Knox.
